William (Bill) Alfred Hersey, age 86, of Lancaster, California, formerly of Mitchel, passed away peacefully, May 29, 2011 at Antelope Valley Hospital.
He was born February 3, 1925 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Thomas and Ruth Hersey. Bill was the 4th of their 6 sons. William graduated from Mitchell Senior High.

While he was attending Marion Wesleyan College in Marion, Indiana, he met and married Juanita McCleery on August 24, 1946. They moved to Mitchel shortly after. To this joyful union he was blessed with 7 children. He was an electrician with his father Tom and then worked for Coates Electric in Mitchell. He retired in 1986 and moved with his wife to San Diego, CA. On August 24 1996 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. After the passing of Juanita in 1998, he moved to Rosamond, California. He married Arayda Doty of Rosamond on August 5, 2000.

William was a member of Wayside Chapel Community Church of Rosamond, The wesleyan and Nazarenen Church in Mitchell and the Nazarene church in Spring Valley, CA. He enjoyed drawing, teaching Sunday school, playing the piano, singing, playing games with his children and grandchildren. He was a great historian telling his past to his family and friends and writing his life's story.

William wil be remembered by his lovingwife and his children Doris Dickinson of Dallas, TX, Ruth (Steve) McCleery of Rockledge, FL, Caroly (Ken) Hill of Sioux Falls, Marilyn (David) Miller from Rapid City, William (Chorita) Hersey of Norman, OK, Marion, "Mick" (Fely) Hersey from Bremerton, WA and, John (Pricilla) Hersey of Spring Valley, Ca and step-children Linda Cook and David Doty. He had 14 grandchiildren and many greatpgrandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Juanita, his parents and all 5 of his brothers and thier wives.

Services in Rosamond will be planned at a later date. Burial will be at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Mitchel, SD.
