Gloucester: William D. Lemke, a longtime resident of Gloucester, Virginia went to be with his Lord and Savior at home with family present, after a courageous battle with cancer on February 1, 2012. Bill was born September 16, 1941 to the late George F. Lemke, Jr. and Mary T. Lemke. He lived his younger years in Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia until his family later moved to Hampton. Bill attended Hampton High School and Frederick Military College. After graduation, he had a lifelong career as an independent insurance agent, operated Metro Insurance Agency in Gloucester and for several years he worked for Schwan's. Bill was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a former member of Knights of Columbus and Marine Corps League Auxiliary, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Bill loved fishing, reading, spending time with his grandchildren and cooking for his family. He had a true gift for getting people together and never met a stranger. Bill enjoyed helping people in any way that he could. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Marie C. Snyder Lemke Madigan and George F. Lemke, Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Agnes Kathleen Berry Tingle and William C. Tingle of Norfolk.

A memorial service officiated by Reverend Dr. Richard Croxton will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church. Inurnment will be private.
