Bill, our much loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Born and raised in Portland, Bill was a graduate of Llewellyn Elementary and Washington High where he made friendships that lasted a lifetime. He served his country as a member of the Naval Construction Battalion as a respected member of the training staff. His love of driving led him to a 45-year career in trucking where he earned his Million Mile award on Pacific NW streets and highways. Prior to retirement, he worked as an instructor training the next generation on the big rigs.
After the traditional soda date and cruise around the Tik Tok Drive-In Restaurant in the Ford, courtship led to the 61-year marriage to Barbara and a wonderful life in SE Portland. They welcomed three children - Linda, Mike, and Tom, and embraced youth sports, outdoor activities and vacations around Oregon in the family Ford. In their retirement Bill and Barb traveled to Arizona in their RV (Ford engine, of course) for golf, friends, and fun in the sun. Back in town they enjoyed their grandchildren, great friends, and more golfing.
Bill is survived by his wife, 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Bill's positive spirit lives on in all whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 20, at Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 6705 SE 14th Ave., Portland, OR.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 0330 SW Curry St., Portland, OR 97239 or Shriners Children's Hospital - Portland, 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd., Portland, OR 97239.
