COLUMBIA Funeral service for William "Bill" Riley Anderson will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Bill passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Friday, December 16, 2011. Born October 17, 1932 in Putnam County, Tennessee, he was the husband of 59 years to the late Myra "Faye" Cooper Anderson and a son of the late Fowler Davis Anderson and Mary Elizabeth Anderson.
A high school graduate of The Detroit School of Commerce High School, Bill continued his studies and graduated from Tennessee Tech University in 1957 with a degree in accounting. Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1950 until 1954. Bill worked as an accountant for the Internal Revenue Service for 37 years and retired from the IRS in 1994. He was a devout Christian and a long time member of North Trenholm Baptist Church for 42 years where he was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. Bill served as the treasurer for the church for many years.
Bill was a devoted husband and a very proud father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his unwavering integrity and character; as well as being the ultimate gentleman.
Surviving are his four children, Eric Anderson and his wife, Elizabeth, of Greenville, Curtis Anderson and his wife, Dianne, of Columbia, Alan Anderson and his wife, Beth, of Woodstock, Ga., Myra Anderson Rutland and her husband, Duncan, of Columbia; ten grandchildren, Elease, Eric, Jr., Kayla and Charlotte Anderson, Riley and his wife, Zoe, and Ryan Anderson, Brittney Anderson, Deana Kerr, Cooper and William Rutland; one great-granddaughter, Bella.
The family would like to thank Unihealth Post Acute Care of Blythewood and United Hospice for their care and kindness.
