William G. "Bill" Robinson passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Monday, December 19, 2011. He was 85 years of age. Bill was born in Malden on March 10, 1926 to the late George & Muriel (Bumstead) Robinson. He was raised in Malden and attended Malden Schools. Mr. Robinson owned the Middlesex Furnace Company in Malden for 12 years and then Robinson Real Estate Company in Malden & Melrose for several years before going into politics. A resident of Melrose for 48 years Bill was the State Representative for the City of Melrose from 1962 to 1984 and continued to get elected even after the Republicans were no longer the majority in the city. He was the Republican Leader in The House of Representatives for eight years and had been elected legislator of the year at one point during his career. Bill was proud to be the driving force behind the passing of the Lemon Law and the Measles Vaccine Law for Children in the State of Massachusetts. He and his wife Eleanor love traveling and they attended 3 Inaugural Balls and 3 National Conventions in Washington DC. He was a talented woodworker & carpenter and loved working with his hands building his own pool and working on numerous projects throughout his home. Bill enjoyed painting on canvas, gardening, golfing, skiing, was a Boston sports fan and a voracious reader. Mr. Robinson was the beloved husband of 65 years to Eleanor (Vittorini) Robinson. Devoted father of Christina Marie Robinson Davis and her husband Gregory J. Davis of East Walpole and Matthew William Robinson & his wife Hollyn of Castle Creek, NY. Loving grandfather of Kara, Evan, Taylor, Brayden & Gavyn Robinson, Alexander William Davis and Juliann DeForest & her husband Samuel DeForest V. Great grandfather of Samuel DeForest VI. Brother of Marie Corey of FL and the late Edward D. Robinson. Brother-in-law of Sylvia Cranfill of Malden, William J. Cavalieri of Medford, Paul E. Cavalieri of Wakefield and the late Frances Picardo. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Thursday, December 22nd at 8AM. A Mass of Christian Burial in Bill's honor will be held at St. Mary's Church, Herbert St. Melrose at 9AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4:00-8:00PM. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241
