William "Bill" Culpepper Barlow, 79, passed away March 28, 2010, in his home. He was born in Petersburg, VA, and raised in Deep Creek by his grandmother, Ellie Culpepper and three uncles after his mother died when he was 16 months old. He was a member of Deep Creek Ruritan Club for over 50 years, serving as president for two terms. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Chesapeake, Better Business Club, serving as president two terms, Past President of Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Dept., and Past President of Deep Creek Rescue Squad. Bill was owner and president of Astro Realty Corp. for many years. He had been involved in land development, building and real estate in the area. He was with Rose & Womble a number of years before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Velma P. Barlow; two daughters, Becky Barlow and fiance Mark Junghans of Chesapeake, VA and Donna Barlow and her fiance Michael Hunter of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a grandson, Daniel Wornstaff of Kill Devil Hills, NC; and a step-sister, Carolyn Milner of Chesapeake, VA. He was predeceased by his parents, Garland Madison Barlow and Bessie Culpepper Barlow; step-mother, Edith Barlow; and brother, Garland Madison Barlow. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Deep Creek Baptist Church, with Pastor Billy Lewis officiating. The burial will be in Culpepper Family Cemetery, located on Old Mill Rd. The family will receive friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Deep Creek Baptist Church.
