W. Yarmouth, William F. Wegiel, 67, former longtime resident of Belchertown, died August 29, 2010 at UMass Med. Center. Born in Palmer, December 19, 1942, he was the son of Albert and Dorothy (Keyes) Wegiel. A graduate of Belchertown High School, he lived most of his life there before moving to W. Yarmouth 14 years ago. A proud veteran, he served in the Coast Guard during Vietnam Era and was a member of American Legion Post 130. Bill worked for the Commonwealth of Mass for DMR in the recreation dept and direct care. He retired after 33 years and was very active in Special Olympics. In his leisure, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and hiking and was also an avid Yankee fan. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 14 years, Anna (Long) Wegiel, his children, Nancy Delisle of W. Brookfield, Theresa Wegiel of Feeding Hills, his step children, Brian Nichols of FL, Patrick Nichols of Bondsville, Jessica Galowski of WI, along with a sister Patricia Wegiel of Bondsville and 9 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.. Besides his parents, a sister Margaret Smith preceded him in death. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Beers and Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St. (Rt. 202). A private graveside with military honors will be held at Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Agawam.
