William Grant Anderson, Sr. was born on September 8, 1922 to the Late Randolph and Lucinda Anderson in Savannah, Georgia. He moved to Bayonne, New Jersey at an early age and joined the Friendship Baptist Church. He graduated from Bayonne Technical High School where he played basketball and ran track. He was given the name "Flash." He married his High School sweetheart, Janie Cawthon. In this union, three sons were born: William Jr. (Patsy), Gary (Rosalind) and Mark Anderson (Yvette). He has eight grandchildren, Matthew (Amber), Maria, Melody, Christina, Douglass, Courtney, Diamond and Eugene; and twin great-grandchildren; Jacob and Joseph with another one on the way. "Bill," was known by his friends, had served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a Technical Sergeant. He was honorably discharged. Bill worked for the US Department of Defense in Springfield, New Jersey for 37 years. He joined the First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor G. George Abernathy. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church serving as the President of the Men's Club for many years. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years in the City of Linden. He also served as the Environmental Commissioner for the City of Linden. Bill was also a NAACP Lifetime Member. One of Bill's greatest passions was his Masonic affiliations. He was WM Acacia Lodge #23 F+AM PHA Roselle, New Jersey, Sardonias Consistory #41, Newark, New Jersey, Golconda Temple #24, and Rising Sun Chapter #7. He served as the District Deputy Grand Master in the Prince Hall Grand Lodge. In June 2000, he was made DDGM Emeritus. He was an Amateur Radio Operator for years. Bill loved his wife, Janie for sixty-three years and was always glad to tell everyone that he had three great sons who never gave him any problems. Servant of God, well done!
