William H. Bailey, 88 of the Country View section of White Township, Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 27, 2011. Born on July 28, 1923 in Morrisville, PA, he was the son of the late Harrison C. Bailey and Sue Shipp. William worked as a locomotive engineer for the Pennsylvania Rail Road, Penn Central, Conrail and Amtrak from 1941 until retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served in both the European and Pacific theaters as a gunner on board of merchant ships. Mr. Bailey was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6701, Washington, NJ. He was a member of the National Association of Veteran Railway Employees, Unit 137, Red Bank, NJ. Mr. Bailey was of the Protestant Faith. Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. Bailey; a son, Roger W. Bailey of Johnson City, TN; four grandchildren, Jennifer Patrick, Robert William Bailey, Amanda Woolf and Devon Woolf; a great-granddaughter, Bailey Elizabeth Patrick; a great-grandson, Kollin Robert Woolf. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of William Bailey.
