William Harold Waller, 93, of McDonough, GA passed away on January 17, 2012. Born in Jonesboro, GA on August 1, 1918, he was the son of Byrd Thomas Waller and William Archer Waller. Survivors are his wife of 72 years, Marie White Waller, 90; daughter, Sandra Waller Turner and her husband David Turner and Dyann Waller Evans and her husband Ron Evans; grandchildren, Rhonda Turner Daum, Daundra Turner Fletcher and her husband Chris Fletcher, Regina Evans Wolf and Brannon Evans and his wife Lisa Evans; great grandchildren, Chris Daum, Ashley Fletcher, Jaxon Wolf and McCall Wolf; great great grandson, Caleb Booth; sister, Meriam Waller Jackson and her husband George (Bucky) Jackson; brothers, Louie Waller and his wife, Nell Waller and Roy Waller and his wife Mattie Ree Waller and extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. After serving his country in the United States Navy in World War II, Mr. Waller worked and retired from Southern Railroad where he was a Conductor, Flagman and Switchman. Known to his friends as "The Fiddler", Mr. Waller's love of bluegrass and gospel music was evident in the beautiful fiddles that he hand-made. Making exquisite fiddles for his family was his passion, but giving them away was not unusual. His generosity and talent were well-known throughout Henry and Clayton Counties, where he joined other band members to play for nursing homes, community centers and churches. Gatherings at his home were called "pickins" and it seemed music and laughter could be heard for miles. Good friends and relatives who joined in with banjos, guitars and bass included Jim and Ronnie Hill, Jack Hobbs and Hugh Smith. Cedar Grove community was another favorite place where he played and sang until he was 91 years of age. As a Christian, Mr. Waller loved his church, Eagles Landing First Baptist Church and attended with his family. He often wrote poems of love to his wife and daughters and thoughts of the afterlife with Christ. His love of his wife and family was apparent to everyone and he never missed an opportunity to tell stories about his grandchildren. The love and respect shown by everyone was a tribute to his life and he will be greatly missed. A celebration of Harold's life will be held Friday, January 20, 2012 – 11:30 AM at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. Tim Dowdy officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 2 – 4:00 and 6 – 8:00 PM. Haisten Funeral Home, 1745 Zack Hinton Pkwy, S., McDonough, GA 30253, 770-914-8833, haistenfunerals.com
