William Henry "Bill" Marshall age 77 of DeSoto, Texas passed away October 10, 2011. William "Bill" Henry Marshall was born March 11, 1934, to the parentage of Emory Marshall and Mary Jane Murphy, both deceased, in Kinston, North Carolina. He was the baby of eight children, Katie Marshall,
Oprah Smith, Glenne Darden, Clara Marshall, Maggie M. Luster, Gratnil M. Smith and Frank G. Marshall (all deceased). Bill received his education in Delaware and New York. After high school he went in the United States Air Force for four years and was Honorably Discharged.
Bill was an R&B (Rhythm & Blues) entertainer for 30 years and he pitch hit and sang with some of the world's finest R&B artists, such as Johnny Taylor,
Al Greene, Z.Z. Hill and Dallas, and R.L. Griffin. He was even honored to sing with B.B. King in New York at a sold out night club concert when one of the back up singers did not show up (this was called pitch hitting). After this sold out event the owner asked Bill to continue as one of their entertainers and he did. He also sung for the Harp Tones out of Waco, Texas, for many years, and he sung with the late Rev. C.L. Franklin Community Choir (gospel), father of the well known Aretha Franklin. He also sung with the late, Bill Moss, father of J. Moss. In January of 2006, he was asked to record a R&B record with one of the greatest R&B artists, but turned it down because of his dedication to the Lord and to gospel music.
He was employed at the Marriott of Dallas for 18 years, it was there that he retired. He was Financial Secretary for th Fantastic 20 Club for 30 years and was later employed at Sam's Wholesale Club for 15 years, where he met his wife, Charlotte, in April of 1992. He sung his way in to her heart and they were married Thanksgiving morning, November 25, 1993, by Pastor Cecil L. Brooks of Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
Bill's church affiliations were Bexar Street Baptist Church, Greater South Central Baptist Church and November 19, 1996, he joined with The Potter's House Church under the leadership of Bishop T.D. Jakes. He was chosen on November 23, 1996, to sing in The Potter's House Mass Choir, and years later it became The Potter's House Recording Mass Choir. Bill named it an Award Winning Choir.
Bill's voice opened doors for him to be chosen with other members of the choir to sing three times on Fox 4 News Good Morning America, TBN Channel 58. He sang with the choir on all four national recordings that were nominated and won one Grammy and one Stellar Award. Bill's last assignment with choir was in Kenya, Africa, with his pastor, Bishop T.D. Jakes, and that was his last time singing with the choir before his health failed him. He was a faithful member at The Potter's House Church, The Potter's House Choir, and faithful to Malachi 3:8-10.
Bill had many names that were given to him by friends and family: Honey Man, Smooth Operator, Golden Voice, Sweet Willie, G.Q. Due, Uncle Bill, Superman Superman and the Kings Kid.
He had a Special sister and brother, Penny Manuel and R.L. Griffin. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Edward Cantrell Carter.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of seventeen years, Charlotte; stepdaughter, Temecca L. Carter; stepson, Francis A. Carter; granddaughters, Tykeeya Shakel, Takala Shane, Tierra Shanese Murrell; grandson, Johnny Carter of Dallas; two godson's Claude Dabney, Jr. and
Christopher Dabney; six sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; Bishop T.D. Jakes; The Potter's House Mass; The Bishop's Choir; and a host of other relatives and friends.
