CRAVEY - Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Crosswinds Community Church (formerly Northside Baptist Church), Hobbs, New Mexico, for William Herman Cravey. Visitation will be held 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Crosswinds Church. Mr. Cravey was 84 years old when he passed away on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Paloma Landing Retirement Center in Albuquerque. Pastor Brad Reimers will officiate the services in Hobbs. Interment will be Monday, February 13, 2012 at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque with Pastor Garland Peek of Sandia Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers will be Hunter Cravey, Daniel Christensen, Kyle Trammel, David Patterson, Andrew Patterson, and John Lionbarger. Herman Cravey was born February 14, 1927, in Mason Co., Texas to John Edgar Cravey and Maude Cavness Cravey. He was united in marriage to Mattie Lee Donham in Sheffield, Texas on October 17, 1948 at the Mother Holmes Memorial Baptist Church where they met in Sunday School. As a young man of 14 years he began working for the Gage Cattle Company near Marathon, TX. Following WWII, in which he served with the U.S. Army occupation forces in Italy, he returned to the Hoover Ranch in west Texas. Soon after his marriage to Mattie he began a long career in the oil and gas business with Ohio Oil in Iraan, TX. He later owned and operated a Phillips 66 service station in Sheffield, TX and operated cable tool rigs in Pecos, TX. After joining Ray Smith Oil Company his family spent ten years in Artesia, NM., then resided for forty years in Hobbs, NM where he retired as Superintendent for Mewbourne Oil Company. His favorite activities were hunting and fishing and he spent many hours trekking the hills and enjoying his boat on the water with family and friends. He was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church in Hobbs. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lee Cravey of the home; three children, Annette Cravey Patterson and husband Randy of Artesia, NM, Joy Lynn Cravey Ellis and husband Johnny of Farmington, NM, and William Ray Cravey and wife Donna of Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Trammel of Loveland, CO, Wade Ellis of Rio Rancho, NM, Diana Christensen of Farmington, NM, David Patterson of Sahuarita, AZ, Andrew Patterson of Albuquerque, NM, William Hunter Cravey and Amanda Cravey both of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Alpha Smith of Robert Lee, TX, and a twin brother Edgar Therman Cravey of Pecos, TX; ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and enjoyed. He was preceded in death by infant grandson Frank Barnett Ellis.
