William Edward “Jimmy” Hill Sr., 77, of Union Bridge, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at Carroll Hospice Dove House, Westminster. Born March 13, 1931 in Norristown, PA, he was the son of Elizabeth Hill Batten, age 95, of Norristown and the late Hugh Duppins. He was the husband of Harriet Hill of New Windsor, his wife of 53 years. Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1951 and was discharged as a corporal in 1960. He was formerly employed with Hinkle & McCoy. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed spending time with him family and playing cards. Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are children and companions, Carter Thomas of South Carolina, William Hill Jr. of Thurmont, Juanita Hill and Tommy Ware of Taneytown, Brian Hill and Karen Farley of Union Bridge, Richard Hill, Felix Hill, both of New Windsor, Michael Hill and Vanessa East of Westminster; sisters and brother, Viola Smith and Delores Davis, both of Norristown, Ira Batten of Chicago; niece, Sarah Lochwood of Norristown; and friends, Percy Jones, Bonnie Fritz, Dudley Jones and Leroy Thornton, all of Union Bridge. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by sister, Bernice Batten; son, Steven Hill; and granddaughter, Tierra Hill. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20 at Westminster United Methodist Church. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, New Windsor. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
