JANESVILLE- William J. Leighty, Jr., age 61, of Janesville, died unexpected on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville. He was born in Tennessee the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Leighty, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army, in the Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He had been a Janesville resident most of his life. Bill had been employed by General Motors and retired in 2006; He also was a member of the UAW Local 95, Beloit Rifle Club and the Janesville Bowmen. He loved the outdoors, especially his Harley Davidson motorcycle, hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with family and friends. Bill is survived by his daughter, Brittany E. Bakley - Leighty of Huntley, IL; significant other, Dawn McLaughlin of Janesville; Dawn's children: Riley, Bailey and Logan; special and close friend, Jim Kingsley; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charlie; and special friend and K9 companion, Reese. A Funeral Service will be held 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Jerry Amstutz officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
