William J. Menhennick, Sr., 89, of Marquette, died Friday afternoon, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. He was born May 4, 1922, in Marquette, a son of the late Alva J. and Lillie (Hennessey) Menhennick, Sr. and was a lifelong area resident. William was a WWII Marine Corp. veteran. On June 19, 1948 he married the former Betty Conradsen in Marquette. William retired from Michigan Bell in 1983 after 42 years of employment as a repairman. He served on the Chocolay Township School Board for 6 years; was an organizer of the Chocolay Township Volunteer Fire Department, serving as secretary for 18 years; was charter president and organizer of the Chocolay Township Lions Club; chapter president of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Great Lakes Chapter #90; volunteer at Bay Cliff Health Camp; member of the VFW; and member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Menhennick of Marquette; son, William J. (Beth) Menhennick, Jr. of Zeeland, MI; daughters, Susan Menhennick of Marquette and Mary (Gerald) Dudek of Cadillac, MI; grandchildren, Pamela (Jeffrey) Jenkins of Lansing, Sara (Carl Long) Bickler of Virginia and Kathryn Dudek of Indianapolis, IN; great-grandchild, Ty Jenkins of Lansing; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Louis the King Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 1 p.m. in the church with Rev. Benedetto Paris officiating. Inurnment will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery.
