William James Monaghan, 82, a resident of Sherwood Forest for 43 years and previously of Dickeyville in Baltimore County, died September 12 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 1, 1929, to the late William F. and Mary G. Monaghan, and graduated from Calvert Hall High School and Loyola College before receiving his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore. He worked for Glenn L. Martin and was later employed by Verizon.
William was a Sherwood Forest Board member and Building Committee Member, and was the recipient of the Severn River Trophy. He was also the parish council president at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Woodlawn. He enjoyed golf, tennis, sailing, attending his grandchildren's sporting events and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Jean (McCourt) Monaghan, whom he married Nov. 22, 1952; five children, William F. Monaghan II of Sherwood Forest, Michael P. Monaghan of Clarksville, Joseph B. Monaghan of Centreville, Mary Patricia Ford of Baltimore County and Jacqueline D. Simonetta of Glen Burnie; sister, Sr. Mary Louise Monaghan, SND of Catonsville; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 14 at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 15 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sherwood Forest Endowment Fund
