Vernon- William Joseph "Bill" Wojcik, Jr., 81 of Pond Road, a former resident of Hinsdale and Brattleboro, died peacefully early Sunday morning, May 15, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Sharon Brissette of Vernon, surrounded by his family following a brief illness. Mr. Wojcik was born in Adams, Mass on November 10, 1929, the son of William and Ida (Devio) Wojcik. He was raised and educated in North Adams and was a graduate of Drury High School, Class of 1948. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge from active service he returned home and went to work for General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass. Mr. Wojcik had been employed by New England Power Company working at several area plants that included Shelburne Falls, Mass, Bellows Falls, Vernon and his last assignment at Fifteen Mile Falls/Commerford in Monroe, NH. He retired as Plant Superintendant in 1989 following 40 faithful years of service with the company. Of his hobbies and interests he enjoyed, gardening, camping, boating and time shared with his family. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He was a former member of the Brattleboro Rotary Club. On January 27, 1951 in Shelburne Falls, Mass he was married to Virginia A. Peters. His wife of 50 years predeceased him in June of 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Brissette and husband Earl of Vernon and Kathi Niles also of Vernon, three sons, William A. Wojcik of The Plains, Virgina, Glenn Wojcik and wife Kelly of Hinsdale and Benjamin Wojcik and wife Alketa of San Marcos, California. Additionally he leaves nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Plankey and Joan Dion. Graveside committal services with full military honors will be conducted on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in Southview Cemetery in North Adams where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Wojcik's name may be made to Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice of VT and NH, P.O.
