WILLIAM JUNIOR METZ, age 75 years, a resident of Kerens, WV, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, May 15, 2007 at the Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Tuesday, July 14, 1931 at Kerens, WV a son of the late William Bryan Metz and Ruth Harsh Metz. On March 10, 1950 he was married to the former Anna Clare Frey, who survives. Also surviving are children, Steven Boyd Metz and wife Dr. Maureena Andreas, St. George; Dr. Charity Anne Metz Schuller and husband Dr. Brian P. Schuller, Morrisville, NC; Emily D. Heston and husband Michael A. Heston III, Elkins; two sisters, Alice C. King, Elkins; Patricia R. Anderko and husband Ted Anderko, Audubon, PA; and one great grandson, Sebastian V. Heston.
Preceding him in death is one daughter, Pamela Renee Metz.
He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1949, had worked as a Coal Miner and as a Carmen, Welder and Crane Operator for the Western Maryland Railroad and CSX Transportation, retiring in 1985 with twenty-seven years of service. He was a member of the Kerens Lodge # 183, I.O.O.F., the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen of America and Canada # 776, the United Mine Workers of America Local # 9981 at Buckhannon, the Elkins-Randolph County Senior Center and was a charter member of the Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid hunter, a Christian and attended the First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Saturday, May 19, 2007 from 2 PM to 4 PM, the funeral hour. The Reverend Doctor Marvin L. Parli and the Reverend Nancy I. Stevens will officiate and then Mr. Metzs request for cremation will be honored. Interment will follow at a later date at the Israel Cemetery at Kerens, WV.
