II Timothy 4:7 Mr. William "Mack" McElveen departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina. He was affectionately called "Mack" by his family and friends. "Mack" was born on February 2, 1938 in Sumter, South Carolina to Mr. William Rhome McElveen, Sr. and Mrs. Lessie Rae Barnes McElveen. William attended the public schools in Sumter County. He worked as a machine operator at International Knife & Saw for 28 years before retiring in 2001. He was known by his neighbors as "the man who was willing to give a ride or a helping hand" if they needed it. He enjoyed during mechanic work for himself as well as others. In his spare time, he loved to fish. William "Mack" McElveen was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ronnie Lee McElveen; and three brothers, Freddie McElveen, Sammie McElveen and Joe Nathan McElveen. William leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 35 years, Mrs. Clara B. McElveen; three sons, Mr. William McElveen, Mr. Terry McElveen and Mr. Perry McElveen, all of Florence, SC; five daughters, Mrs. Clara (Donnie) Moses of Florence, SC; Mrs. Kerri (George) Pressley and Ms. Mary "Keta" McElveen, all of Columbia, SC; Ms. Shirley Greene of Zebulon, GA; and Ms. Claretha Johnson of Florence, SC; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Mae Scott and Mrs. Pearl Richardson, both of Philadelphia, PA; one brother, Mr. Nathaniel "Sonny" McElveen of Tuberville, SC; special friend, Ms. Lugenia "Mary" Barr of Florence, SC; two caregivers, Ms. Erica "Trell" Lewis and Ms. Faith Smith; a friend of many years, Weldon Williams of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
