William F. Miles, 92, of Burlington, died at 10:55 am Sunday, June 3, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 2, 1920, in Milton, MA, he was the son of Frederick and Della Carlen Miles. On February 16, 1946, he married Eunice Marie Gropp in Chicago, IL. She died July 4, 2010.

Bill was a machinist for Sunbeam Appliance Company. He retired in 1982.

He was a 1939 graduate of North Quincy High School in Quincy, MA., he then attended trade school.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a technician in the 45th anti aircraft artillery group during World War II from March 17, 1942 until January 4, 1946.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He had been a scout master for a Boy Scout Troop in Chicago for many years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, collecting coins and stamps, and square dancing. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Boston Red Socks, and had even seen Babe Ruth play. He loved his family and was a great provider.

Survivors include two sons, Fred C. (Susan) Miles of Berwyn, IL, and Bill Miles of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Frances (Patrick) Jackson M.D. of Burlington; six grandchildren, Matthew Miles, Bailea Jackson, Wade (Kellie) Jackson, Erin Jackson, Abigail Jackson, and Katie Jackson; two great-granddaughters, Hailey Miles and Ainsley Conrad; one sister, Ruth Cavanaugh of Wellfleet, MA; and five nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Miles will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Christopher Roepke officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the burial.

Memorials have been established for Concordia Lutheran Church and the Great River Hospice House.
