William P. Garceau, 82, of 222 S. Fifth St., Marquette, died Saturday evening, October 29, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital after a short illness. Bill was born on January 6, 1929 in Ishpeming, a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Beale) Garceau. His working years included Railway Express for 10 years, the former Gately�s Furniture in Ishpeming for 10 years, owning and operating 480 Furniture in Marquette for 28 years, and finally working in maintenance at St. Peter Cathedral for 5 years. Bill was a longtime member of St. Peter Cathedral as well as a charter member of St. Christopher Parish Council #13333 of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include four children, JoAnne Sager of Flushing, MI, Melanie Murray of Marquette, George (Jennifer Christian) Garceau of Golden Valley, AZ, and Jerry Garceau of Marquette; 7 grandchildren, Jason Sager and Bethany (Ray) Barber, both of Flushing, William (Melissa) Murray of Ventura, CA, James and Joseph Murray of Marquette, Megan Garceau of Shreveport, LA and Sarah Garceau of Marquette; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Nellie Magoon of Marquette, Betty McWilliams of Ishpeming and Sandy (Roger) LaFreniere of Traverse City, MI; 2 brothers, Dave (Judith) Garceau and Joseph Garceau, both of Ishpeming; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was a sister, Margaret Nyman; three brothers, Charles, Walter and Robert Garceau; a son-in-law, Michael Murray; his former wife, Julia S. Garceau; also his mother and father-in-law, Marie and George �Rip� Voet. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home where a parish prayer service will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Peter Cathedral with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating and Deacon Dean Jackson assisting. Memorials are preferred to the Lake Superior Hospice Association or St. Peter Cathedral in Mr. Garceau�s memory.
