William P. (Holmes) Marino, 84, of Weirton passed away on Saturday December 17, 2011, at the Valley Hospice Care Center, Steubenville, OH. His loving family and friends were at his side. Born on September 24, 1927, in Steubenville, OH, Bill was a son of the late James B and Minnie Alberti Marino. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert James Marino; a sister, Josephine Marino; and a niece Diana Lynn Zerkle. A graduate of the Weir High Class of 1946, Bill retired with over 30 years of service from Weirton Steel, as a guard in Plant Protection. Holmes loved his family, and friends. He enjoyed spending time planting flowers in his yard and tending to his vegetable garden. An active member of Saint Paul's Church and Holy Name, Bill could often be found, making pancakes for the Annual Pancake Breakfasts, tirelessly working the Lenten Fish Fries, or stringing Christmas Lights, a project that he and his Uncle Joe Alberti started years ago, with a dedicated crew of parishioners. This beautiful Christmas display is still enjoyed today at the church as well as the visitors and residents of Downtown Weirton. Bill was also a proud member of the ISDA Weirtonian Lodge, and a loyal Pittsburgh Steeler, Penguin and Pirate fan. He is survived by his loving wife Helen Veselica, whom he married on April 11, 1953, his two sons, Robert J. (Deb) Marino and Mark (Miki) Marino all of Weirton, WV; a sister, Marie Newbrough, and her special friend Joe Buelich of Rockledge, FL; six grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Marino, Jessica (R. Charlie) Barth, J.T. (Crystal) Jezierski, Meredith (Randy) Shah, Katlyn and Anthony Marino; great grandchildren, Zavier Shah, David and Reagan Barth, and Baby Shah due in the Spring of 2012; and a large loving family which includes, Bertha and Jim Zerkle, Mark and Tammie Zilich, and George Veselica and Mary Barnabei; and many friends, especially John Grossi and family, and Ray Marosi and family. Visitation will be Monday 2-8 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Tuesday at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weirton. Rev. Fr. Larry Dorsch will preside. Entombment will follow at Saint Paul's Mausoleum. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, 140 Walnut Street Weirton or to the Valley Hospice 10686 State Rte 150 Rayland, OH 43943.
