After a valiant fight against leukemia, William Porter Marsh III, 69, of Duck NC, passed away on April 14, 2011. Bill was born on December 7, 1941 and grew up in Pelham Manor, NY. He graduated from New York Military Academy and attended Wake Forest University and Parsons School of Design. Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Veronica Callahan Marsh; two daughters, Virginia Cothran Marsh and Dr. Elizabeth Marsh Vantre; two sons-in-law, R. Wayne Ramos Jr. and Dr. Scott T. Vantre. He is also survived by six wonderful grandchildren: Nicholas Porter Vantre, Steele Thomas Vantre, Sofia Grace Ramos, Drew Scott Vantre, Elizabeth Scott Vantre and William Callahan Ramos. Bill was a Captain in the US Army Signal Corps and was stationed in Europe, Vietnam and South Korea. He and Ronnie lived in Montclair, New Jersey for 20 years before moving to the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1991. Involved in the community, Bill served on the Montclair Board of Adjustment, the Mainstreet Board; was an active member of Kiwanis and was a Founder and Director of First Night Montclair, the first such celebration in New Jersey. Bill received the Realtor of the Year Award in 1990 and was awarded Man of the Year by the Montclair chapter of Jaycees. He was most recently a broker with Brindley Beach in Duck. There were many things that brought added joy to Bill's life, including golf, aviation, tennis, carving and music. He was a private pilot, an avid golfer and had an ear for music, playing both guitar and piano. To his family, Bill was a gift; sharing his good nature, kind heart and generous spirit with everyone he knew. He valued each moment of his life, especially during this last year. He leaves a legacy of strength through adversity and was a model of bravery, faith and love. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Duck Methodist Church on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
