William Thomas "Bill" Whitmire, 83, a resident of Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2012.

Born in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late Lucille Whitmire.

He was a graduate of Furman University and received his Masters Degree from Columbia University. He was a retired School Psychologist in New York and New Jersey. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving is a brother, James Elrod of Greenville, SC.

Private services will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 7, 2012, from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at The Mackey Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Furman University, 3300 Poinsett Hwy., Greenville, SC 29613
