William Thomas Brooks, Sr., 88, of Huntington, died Sunday, August 5, 2012 in Cabell Huntington Hospital. Bill was born December 28, 1923 in Bluefield, W.Va., a son of the late John Wesley and Stella Mae Gilpin Brooks. In addition to his parents he was also preceded by two sisters and one brother. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and then served in the Army Reserves. He attended Marshall and WVU and retired from Acme Machinery Company as a Mechanical Engineer of mining equipment. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he had served as Deacon and Elder, was Superintendent of Sunday School and was Assistant to the Interim Pastor in the late 1980's. He also served on the Board of Directors of Cabell Huntington Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Nyta Vale Parsons Brooks; four children and nine grandchildren, Sharyn Vale McDanald of Huntington (sons Dr. Darrick Matthew and wife Stacey and Paul Trevor), William T. Brooks, Jr of Huntington (Sons William Tyler and Adam Casey), Deborah Ann Nerhood and husband Dr. Robert Nerhood of Seabrook Island, S.C. (sons Dr. Justin Michael Nolte and wife Nicki, Robert Nerhood, II and wife Heather, Timothy Nerhood and wife Bree), Joseph Wesley Brooks and wife Jennifer of Huntington (daughters Jessica Woods and husband Bobby and Samantha Brooks); eight great-grandchildren, Alec Kusman, Peyton McDanald, Jackson McDanald, Ainsley Nolte, Kayleigh Nerhood, Nicholas Nerhood, Wyatt Nerhood and Wesley Nerhood and a sister Betty Isaacs of Hazard, Ky. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Dr. John C. Minihan. Entombment will follow in Woodmere Abbey of Remembrance. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary. In lieu of Flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
