William Wright was born on December 9, 1946 in Sumter, South Carolina, son of Martha Oxendine Wright and Theodore Wright. He lived in Linden, New Jersey before moving to East Orange 20 years ago. William was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Having served from September 23, 1966 until his honorable discharge on September 14, 1968, he earned the Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badge and one Overseas Service Bar. He was a self-employed General Contractor for 25 years. Previously, he was employed by General Motors Corporation in Linden and by Continental Drum in Carteret. Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a member of the Taurus Motorcycle Club in Rahway. He was an avid fisherman, CB operator and enjoyed shooting pool. He also coached a flag football team in Linden. William Wright departed this life on Monday, March 7, 2011 at VA New Jersey Health Care System – East Orange, New Jersey at the age of 64. He was predeceased by his father, Theodore Wright and mother, Martha Pinckney, a brother, Theodore Wright and a sister, Martha Jackson. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife, Cynthia Wright; two sons, Dwayne and Dennis Wright; a sister, Mary Singletary of Avenel, NJ; a brother, Robert Wright of New Bern, NC; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
