Willie Mae Sandidge, 82, of West 11th Street died unexpectedly Friday, February 29, 2008 at her home.

She was born May 23, 1925 in Caruthersville. MO, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Loggins) Hampton and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1956.

She retired from the State Liquor Department after more than 20 years of service.

A devout Christian, she was a longtime faithful member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer, trustee, cook, missionary, on the mother’s board, and singing in the gospel chorus and mission choir. A member of the NAACP, she served as their treasurer for over 30 years. Mrs. Sandidge loved to cook and hosted all holiday dinners at her home.

Her survivors include three children, Erma Holley, Juanita Chapman, and Otis Sandidge, Jr., all of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Hope, Ramona, Teresa, Anthony, and Janice; 9 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Sandidge, Sr.; two brothers, Curlee Collins and A.C. Collins; three sisters, Lucille Thompson, Carrie Bell, and Estella Collins; and her parents.

A service will be held 12 Noon Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, 3837 West Avenue, Ashtabula. Elder Steve Sargent will officiate. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 5 from 6 to 8 PM at the Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula and on Thursday, March 6 from 11 to 12 Noon at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church.
