Willie Mae Smith was born on July 21, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. George and Lillie Willis in Aberdeen, Mississippi. She was the fourth out of ix children born to this union.

Willie Mae was born and raised in the "sanctified church" and confessed Christ as her Savior at an early age. She married her childhood sweetheart, Mr. David Smith and to this union five children were born; two sets of twins; Hosea (who preceded her in death) and Osea, Bernice (who preceded her in death) and Roma; and Anice.

Willie Mae worked as a Nurses Aid in the Nursery of St. Mary's Hospital for 27 years and retired in August 1984. Willie Mae was affectionately known as "Cat" for her beautiful cat eyes and also "Lefty" because she was known for having a mean left hook.

She leaves to cherish her memory two loving daughters, Anice Brown and Roma Thomas, four grandchildren, Tina Rhone, Rhonda Brown, Joel Thomas and Renita Brown and one grandchild who preceded her in death, Terrence Brown; thirteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren; one nephew Larry Lawshee as well as a host of extended family and friends…She will be missed by all.
