Minnema, Wilma (nee: Knorr) age 76, a lifelong resident of Hawthorne entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday August 17, 2011, surrounded by her loved ones. She was always generous and thoughtful, living a life that truly reflected the love of God. Her ability to impart a word of encouragement and wisdom was inspiring. Wilma was the beloved daughter of the late Wilhelmina (Koning) & Leonard Knorr and loving wife of John Minnema, Jr for 56 years. She was the devoted sister of Lenora Hoffman of Pompton Lakes, William Knorr of AZ and Leonard Knorr of FL. A wonderful mother of Pastor John and Laura Minnema of Oakland, Karen Minnema of Wantage, and Lisa Minnema and Keith Minnema of Hawthorne. She was the loving aunt of 28 nieces and nephews, and the adoring grandmother to seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her brothers Garret, John, Jacob and Edward Knorr, and her sisters Gertrude VanEeuwen, Henrietta Castillo and Pauline Teschon predeceased her. Wilma, a long time member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church joyfully and faithfully served her Lord in various roles including Sunday School Superintendent for two year olds, Coordinator of Pioneer Girls for ten years, daily vacation bible school leader and a member of the Serving Hands Committee. She was an accomplished seamstress as well as an incredible hostess, frequently catering large parties and family gatherings. Early in her marriage she owned Wildiens Dress shop with her mother-in-law Diena Minnema, who she loved dearly. Wilma was a great mother who encouraged her children to seek the Lord and actively supported their development through participation with girl scouts, as a class parent and through attending their athletic events. It gave her great joy to reconnect with her family in Holland through dedicating much time and effort toward uncovering and recording her genealogy. Wilma lived her life with a wholehearted devotion to God and family through caring, encouraging and serving others. Her worth is not measured in what she had, but in who she was and in what she gave. She was truly a precious gift from God. We will surely miss her. Funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Monday, August 22, 2011, meeting at the Hawthorne Gospel Church, 2000 State Route 208, Hawthorne, NJ 07506. Interment will follow at the Redeemer Cemetery, Mahwah. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, NJ 07506. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hawthorne Gospel Church in Wilma's memory.
