Wilmer Dereck Gaskin, fondly referred to as "Dee" and "Bunky" departed this life on Thursday, December 16, 2010. Dee was born to Wilmer and Edith Gaskin on December 1, 1957. Dee was raised in Newark, New Jersey and graduated from Barringer High School in 1975. During his school years he was quite the athlete where he played basketball, baseball & football. After high school, Dee served in the US Navy from 1976 to 1980. On June 30, 1987, he was raised as a Mason in the Universal Masonic Brotherhood, Inc. Scottish Rite Affiliation. On July 10, 2000, Dee was joined in Holy Matrimony to Inez Carter. Over the years, Dee became a skilled carpenter under the guidance of his brother- in-law, Virgil. Dee was known for his ability to renew, remodel and revitalize whatever projects he took on. We would often hear some say: "Call Dee, he can do it!!". Those of you who were fortunate enough to experience his expertise are aware that he was a perfectionist. His high quality work and services he provided lives on and was second to none! Dee was predeceased by his parents; Wilmer and Edith and his brothers, Billy and Chucky Gaskin. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Inez; daughter, Tamika (David) Bowen of Pittsburgh, PA; siblings, Judy (Virgil) Jacko of Glassboro, NJ, Linda (Melvin) Slaughter of Bristol, PA, Janice (Stewart) White of Newark, NJ and Wali Gaskin of Newark, NJ; stepson, Marek R. Moore and stepgrandson, Makhai R. Moore; mother-in-law, Nellie Carter and brother-in-law, Cornell Carter; godparents, Frank and Rosa Porter, Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
