Wilson J. "Johnny" White, 63, who lived for the past 10 years in Albuquerque, NM, passed away after a long illness on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. He was born in El Reno on June 25, 1948 and was a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. He is survived by his children Dorothy and Marshall of Albuquerque NM; his grandchildren Darrell, Maximo, Krysten and Joshua of Albuquerque NM; and his sister Theresa White Bear of El Reno. He was preceded in death by his brothers Amos, Billy Joe and Calvin and his sister, Minnie White Killsnight all of El Reno. Johnny attended Concho Indian School in Conch, OK and Chilocco Indian School in Chilocco, OK. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served with the U.S. Navy from 1968 until 1970 when he was honorably discharged. After his service he attended the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque NM. While in Albuquerque he was reunited with Ida Raye Shortman and the two were married in 1973. They had two children. Johnny had a love for playing basketball, telling jokes, drawing/sketching, and singing Indian tunes. He also had a particular affection for the classic Science Fiction movies from the 1950's and 1960's. In life no matter the situation he always managed to have a smile on his face and bring a smile out in others. A wake service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 7 pm - 9 pm at the Concho Community Hall in Concho, OK. A Funeral service will be held Sunday February 5, 2012 at 11 am at the Concho Community Hall in Concho, OK. Internment will follow at the Concho Tribal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Operation Home Front (www.operationhomefront.net). Services being handled by Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
