Yara Campos Lamadrid June 17, 1933 - October 28, 2011 Yara Campos Lamadrid of Waco passed away Friday, October 28, 2011. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Gonzalo Ferrer officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. with rosary to follow at 6:30 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Yara was born June 17, 1933 in Camaguey, Cuba to Dr. Carlos and Manuela F. Campos. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Cullman, Alabama. She married Jose Lamadrid on June 15, 1958, in Havana, Cuba. She worked at the Coca Cola plant in Havana. In 1964 Yara and her family left Cuba as political refugees and settled in the United States. The family moved to Waco in 1968. She worked for Waco ISD for 30 years teaching kindergarten. She was a very proud graduate, a part of the first class of Montessori teachers in Waco. Yara, a devout Catholic, was involved in many charitable activities at Sacred Heart and St. Francis Catholic churches. She was known for helping those in need. No one who came to her for help left empty-handed or hungry. During Christmas, many people would come to her home to enjoy her elaborate nativity display. Yara's love and enthusiasm for life and family was immeasurable. She was the life of every gathering and never met a stranger. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jose Lamadrid, and her sister Margarita Schuss. She is survived by her son, Carlos Lamadrid and wife Carol; daughter Yara Lamadrid-Rose and husband David, and daughter-in-law Traci Thrift; grandchildren Keneth, Lauren, Yara Maria, Katerina, Andrea and Alexandra, and great-grandchild Adyson. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Carlos Campos, Jr Yara will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
