Yaye passed away peacefully on January 6, 2013 at the age of 86. She is survived by her son, Donald, her son, Andy and daughter-in-law, Patti, and her two grandchildren, Michael and Mark. Yaye was born in Broderick, CA on May 1, 1926 as one of nine children and worked on the family farm. During WW II her family was sent to Amache internment camp in Colorado (1942-1945). When the camp closed, she moved to Denver with her mother and her younger siblings. Her father and the older siblings went to California to look for work and a place to live. In 1946, Yaye moved to Sacramento and worked at the DMV until she got married in 1954. She married her late husband, George Higashioka, at the San Mateo Buddhist Church and has lived in San Mateo for more than 58 years. Yaye worked with her husband, George, in their general insurance and income tax service business. She also helped George with their travel agency business and assisted with tour groups to Japan. Yaye loved people, especially her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, fine dining, and gambling.
Yaye is predeceased by her parents, Takaichi and Hatsuya Tanaka and her siblings, Hank Tanaka, Bill Tanaka, Kikuye Makishima, Harry Tanaka, Tane Ogawa, Larry Tanaka, Kay Tanaka, and Chiye Uda.

A memorial service will be held at the San Mateo Buddhist Church located at 2 South Claremont Street, San Mateo, CA 94401 on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 PM.
