Zachariah T. McPherson, 97, of St. Joseph passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Lakeland Continuing Care in St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 18, 2011 at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct., in St. Joseph with Pastor Christopher Kruchkow officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Run Cemetery. Friends may visit from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph First United Methodist Church or the St. Joseph Senior Center. Those wishing to share a memory of Zach may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
Zach was born August 8, 1914 in Marion, IN to Wilson & Amanda (Hewitt) McPherson. He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. On April 16, 1938 he married Mineva Reber she preceded him in death in 1982 and in 1986 he married Lydia Worten and she preceded him in death in 2001. Zachariah worked as a Postal Clerk for 28 years at the St. Joseph Post Office. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards and going to the St. Joseph Senior Center.
Zach is survived by his daughters Karen (Dale) Freehling of Bridgman, Lois (Nick) Zender of Johnstown, CO; step-daughter Alice Henry of Ontario, NY; six grandchildren Mike (Lora) Freehling, Steven (Jann) Freehling, Marcia (Mike) Kackmeister, Ryan (Michelle) Zender, Kyle (Ashley) Zender and Judy Henry; eleven great grandchildren; sisters Marie Price of South Haven, and Delores Muller Aurora, CO. Zach was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mineva and Lydia and sisters Oletha Newnum, and Juanita Schneider.
