CARTER, NORA M.
Age 82, a resident of Rio Rancho, Red River, and Santa Fe, passed away at home Wednesday, November 16, 2011 surrounded by her family. She is survived by husband of 50 years, James Carter of Rio Rancho; sons, Jose Ladd Gutierrez and wife, Belinda of Espanola and Neil Carter of Georgia; daughters, A. Marie Gutierrez of Santa Fe, Loretta Archuleta and husband, Joe of Rio Rancho, Brenda Sais and husband, Joey of Los Lunas; sisters, Ida Gutierrez and husband, Cresencio of Pueblo, CO and Sally Aguilar of Las Vegas, NM; grandsons, Daniel Gutierrez and wife, Cathann, Michael Harrigan and companion, Lindsey Knight, Jason Gutierrez, Jeffrey Gutierrez and wife, Emily, Nathaniel Gutierrez and wife, Corrine, Brian Martinez, Eric Archuleta, Matthew Martinez and wife, Melissa, and Aaron Sais; granddaughters, Victoria Gutierrez Baca and husband, Chris, Karen Harrigan Ladd and husband, Butch, Stephanie Archuleta Alcala and husband, Carlos, Amanda Martinez and companion, Sam Kreiner, Kelly Carter, and Kathryn Harrigan and companion, Walter Greenwood; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Nora was preceded in death by her first husband, Ramon Gutierrez; son, Ernest R. Gutierrez; sisters, Juanita Montoya and Carolina Aguilar. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mama, grandma, great-grandma, sister, tia and friend. Nora retired from the Santa Fe Public Schools after many years of service. Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Red River where they lived for thirteen years. While in Red River, she mastered her swimming and snowmobiling skills and became an accomplished painter. Nora also found great joy in square dancing, snowshoeing, giving cooking lessons, and keeping active in the Red River community. Nora and her husband then moved to Albuquerque to be close to their family. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at French, Westside Chapel on Monday, November 21, 2011, with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of New Mexico, 4015 Carlisle Blvd. NE, #E, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
