Irene L. (Mattson) Amero, 78, of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital with her children by her side. Born in Rockport on July 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Onni and Margaret (Dutcher) Mattson. Irene grew up in Rockport and attended Rockport schools. She worked hard raising her family and was formerly employed at Mighty-Mac, Gorton's of Gloucester, Ames store in Beverly and later at Rule Industries. Irene was an accomplished seamstress and had made clothing and sweaters for her family. She also loved flowers. She is survived by her four children, Philip E. Amero Jr. and wife Mary, David M. Amero and wife Marly, Douglas F. Amero and wife Debbie, Linda M. Silva and husband Brian, all of Gloucester; her grandchildren Jason Silva of Quincy, Keith Silva of Gloucester; her former husband Philip E. Amero of Gloucester; and her sister Lydia Viator of Buzzards Bay. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Mattson and his wife Marie; sister Viola Mattson; and brother-in-law Bob Viator. Her funeral service will be held in Pigeon Cove Chapel, Rockport, on Monday, April 16th at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will precede the funeral service on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Burgess & Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main Street, Rockport.
