It was a great honor and privilege to know Guthrie and work with him for more than thirty years. How lucky it was for me!

I was so sorry to hear of Guthrie's passing. It has been a delight to count him as a friend for the past 20 years.

My fondest memories from my college days are those with the CC Choir with Guthrie at the helm. I'm grateful I was blessed to have had the opportunity to perform with such a great talent and a wonderful man.
My sympathies are with his family today.

I am greatly saddened by the news of Guthrie's passing and my sympathies go out to the family. I first met Guthrie when we both played in the Columbia Philharmonic. Sometime in the early 70's I was appointed Personnel Manager of the orchestra. One Christmas, Guthrie wanted an orchestra to accompany the Columbia Choral Society's performance of The Messiah and he asked me to put together a group of musicians for him, which I did. That turned out to be

Rest in peace "Daddy Darr" as we affectionately called Mr. Darr during our choir days at Columbia College. We have so many fond memories of Mr. Darr such as traveling to England with him and the C2 choir. I also remember Mr. Darr not allowing me to come to choir until I went to the cafeteria to have lunch. I was so small he thought I was not eating. He truly cared about us as more than his students. He

Guthrie inroduced me to the game of golf. When I was 9, he brought Paul and me to the driving range at Sedgewick. On one unfortunate stroke, my club slipped out of the handle and flew about 30 yards out into the range. I was mortified, but it didn't phase Guthrie. I retrieved the club and enjoy golfing to this day.

I was priveleged to attend many performances Guthrie directed over the years and when he was wearing those tuxedo tails,

Winona and Heidi. Yolanda and I were saddened to learn of Guthrie's passing, and although this is a difficult time for you and the rest of your family, we are thankful for the contributions he made to the cultural life of Columbia, to the lives of his students, and to his family and friends. He had a wonderful influence on so many lives, and his was certainly a life well lived. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

Guthrie was such a wonderful musician. I enjoyed being in the USC Faculty woodwind quartet with him (60's), singing in the Choral Society, and Brian and I both enjoyed playing in the orchestra for Columbia College musicals and playing in the Columbia Philharmonic with him. He will be greatly missed.
