Douglas L. Janssen, 61 of Nelson died Monday February 15, 2016 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
He was born on June 2, 1954 in Sterling the son of Leroy and Verna (Schreiner) Janssen and was a graduate of Rock Falls High School. Doug retired from the former National Manufacturing Co after 30 years. He then worked at Krieder Services in Dixon until 2009. Doug enjoyed coaching boxing; outdoor activities; boating and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a proud member of the Who Else Club and was a people person.
Surviving are his children: Matthew (Dene) Janssen of Dixon, Cody (Stephanie) Janssen of Nelson and Stacey (Roy) Garcia of Sterling; his brothers: Bill (Sandra) Vondrak of Jacksonville, FL, Bruce (Ann) Janssen of Rockford and Dave (Debra) Janssen of Nelson; his sister Karen (Bill) Freres of Oconomowac, WI; 8 grandchildren, Taylen Halgren, Chase Janssen, Trista Janssen, Makenzie Janssen, Haley Janssen, Noah Garcia, Alecia Garcia and Briella Garcia; and his special friend Grace Hurd.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Jenna Janssen.

I remember Doug from when we were kids. We lived next door and Doug was a good kid. We always were at the school playing, or riding our bikes.
I'm very sorry to hear of the loss to the family and close friends. Please be assured Doug will always be in your heart, he isn't gone.
I haven't seen Doug since we left Nelson when I was nine, but have been thru Nelson and always drove by our old foundation and
