Tribute & Message From The Family

Steven Gregory Oltmann

Message From The Family

We wish to thank everyone for their kind words and gestures and sharing of our dad's memories. ~Sonya and Sterling

Our dad passed away on March 3, 2020 at the age of 66.

He is survived by his mother Uni; children Sonya (Steve) and Sterling (Carol); grandsons Jayden and Jake; his sister, Debby (Gary); nephews Jason (Ariane) and Gregory (Wendy); and his great-nephews Miles and Henry.

He was raised and lived in San Jose until he passed away. He went to Berryessa Elementary, Piedmont Middle, and graduated from Piedmont Hills High School. His final moments were at the San Jose Regional Hospital, which happened to be the same place his children were born when it was Alexian Brothers Hospital.

Our father was skilled at so many things – our garage was filled with every type of tool imaginable – and he could do just about anything. He built our first beds – captain style – from scratch, not a kit that would be used nowadays…the deck in our backyard, raised flower beds, the list goes on. He was also a skilled auto mechanic – we have a lot of memories of people bringing their cars over and my dad helping them out. We never needed a mechanic because our dad could do just about everything.

He had lots of interests – gun and knife collecting, fishing, and modifying things just to name a few. He loved pets and the dogs we have had in our family always had a special place in his heart…him and Mocha had the best bond.

Our dad had a heart of gold, that's what stands out the most about our memories of him. He would give you the shirt off his back. He was a phone call away and would stop everything to come and help you. Whether it was a flat tire, a project, just needing someone to talk to, or a ride, whatever it was, he was there for you.

He was so proud that our family name would live on through his grandsons.

Steve will be missed by so many. He was a great friend to me. A devoted son and father. He raised 2 awesome children. He was always there for me and everyone that matter to him. We would talk for hours and I learned so much from him. He was my go to guy anytime I needed information or advice. Even if I needed a listener. He was the best. I'm gonna think about him and miss him daily. I'm so sorry for his family and their loss.
