To the Jones Family my heart cries out, “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave everlasting comfort and good hope by means of underserved kindness, comfort your hearts and make you firm.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16, 17.

"Injustice often inflames passions, she will be remembered for her Passion." her love for humankind.

As a 7 year old in 1964, I was not yet aware of the Civil Rights movement. I was, however, becoming very aware of the Vietnam War..... the dishonesty and hateful divisions among the American people, and what a horrible immediate future awaited me, in our immediate family. I was a little girl growing up, in a big world full of anger, hurt and hate - carefully observing the state of human relationships among Americans. It didn't look good.
Greater awareness came in high school. And then, college. And then, in my worklife, until retirement, just last year. This gifted me with the ability and time - to write forever.
So, to Mimi, about whose long life of love and service I learned today, God bless you in your legacy of meeting hate with acts of love - and an ever stronger solid resilience for overcoming your personal enemies. The haters still exist to this day. The living will remember your sacrifice and terror - and forever fight for you to live freely - the good fight - for all who live here, in America - no matter their color. May God guide me to those who respect Him, and are like-minded. My God bless you forever in heaven - and give you peace. Amen.

To Mimi’s Family - when I met Mimi through Queen Mother Frances Pierce- I had not met anyone so genuinely warm and kind-hearted in my life. We just connected, though we were strangers at first. I always looked forward to seeing Mimi at Queen Mother’s gatherings, where we would catch-up and exchange a hug! I will always remember the warmth of her spirit!! Please accept my condolences.

Mimi was a true champion at all levels. She was an outstanding leader, mentor, activist/organizer and advocate for justice and equality for her beloved community. She was a true "sister" in the struggle to me and I feel a deep sense of loss that cannot be replaced. I know I speak also for those of the Boston Pan African Forum (BPAF) an organization to which she was sincerely dedicated since its founding. Be at peace, Mimi. Your life legacy is truly a great beacon of light to guide the actions to all of us who continue in the tradition of activism that you so powerfully inspired.

I had the pleasure to meet and work with Mimi for a short time years ago. I did not know anything about her heroic actions during the civil rights movement and what a fighter she was. I wish I had known. Nevertheless, her outstanding nature shone through her eyes and smile. Mimi was unforgettable and will have a place in my heart for as long as I live for all she did on behalf of humanity. Thank you, Mimi.

It will always be a precious memory when Mimi walked me down the beach in St. Augustine and we finally touched the water--something she had been unable to do half a century before. Farewell, old friend. Thanks for having the courage when it was needed, and for telling the story, in person and on film, of "the splash heard round the world." Rest in Peace.
