Tribute & Message From The Family

MARY DONOVAN LIVED A GOOD LIFE AND LOVED HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Mary Teresa Donovan, 87, of Norwood passed away Tuesday August 18, 2020 in Wallingford, PA. She was born Feb. 14, 1933 in Philadelphia to the late Leo & Mary (Sweeney) Toland.

Mary attended grade school at St. Barnabas in Southwest Philadelphia and was a proud graduate of Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School. In 1957 Mary and Jim moved to Norwood and became active in Norwood Swim Club, developing life long friendships in the neighborhood. Mary and Jim loved to travel, were Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holders, and took over Donovan's Tavern in South Philadelphia from Jim's parents, Margaret and James Donovan. The tavern was a gathering place for family and their many Philadelphia friends. For twenty years Mary worked at the Iacobucci Organization, area homebuilders, and gained many more lasting friendships. After Jim's death, Mary took up yoga and loved the Healthplex in Springfield. Mary traveled to Tanzania, the Peruvian Amazon, Spain, Morocco, and Italy along with summer holidays in Sea Isle City, NJ. She enjoyed long weekends in New York City with her sister and son, seeing Broadway shows, dining out, and exploring the town.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Donovan and her sister Eileen (Toland) Pollick.

Survivors include her son Michael P. Donovan and beloved nieces and nephews, Mark Pollick, William and Eileen (Madden) Pollick, Anthony and Christine (Pollick) DiBona, Colleen Pollick and Terrell Taylor, and Charles Pollick.

Family and friends are invited to Mary's visitation Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at The Church of St. Gabriel, 233 Mohawk Ave., Norwood. Funeral Mass will immediately follow at 11 AM. Interment in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield. Social distancing will be observed, and facemasks are required.
