Tribute & Message From The Family

John J. McNeill, (Jay,J- J, J.Bird) age 75 of Algonquin, IL passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was born on February 14, 1945 to his parents Jack and Marion McNeill Jay is survived by his loving wife Clara of 57 years, his children Maria McNeill, John
(Michelle) McNeill and Joseph (Jane) McNeill.

He has 10 grand children and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his Sister Jody (Ted) Batista, and Brother Michael (Suzy) McNeill and brother in-law Anthony (William) Mangiardi. Along with a long list of cousins and extended family.

John and his wife Clara were married in Chicago on December 04, 1963. They currently are members of St. Margaret Mary Church in Algonquin, IL.

He was the loving and dedicated father whose work ethic exemplified "work hard – playharder". He never missed a day of work or an opportunity to have fun. Dad loved spending time on his many boats with his family and friends. He had a story for every voyage – even if the boat never left the dock. Whether J-Bird was driving the roads of Chicago and the interstate or if he was navigating the Fox River or the South Florida waterways – he was always in the drivers seat. He made a friend everywhere he went. His smile was inviting, his whit and humor were undeniable and his laugh was infectious. He will always be remembered as the life of the party.

During these unprecedented times of Covid-19, a small service will occur on December
21, 2020 at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, IL. for his immediate family.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date when social distancing guidelines
allow. (Please reserve flowers for his celebration of life)

I was so saddened to hear of J.J.’s passing. I have fond memories of him from when I was a little girl, when he first dated my cousin Clara and when they married. He always had a smile on his face. My deepest condolences to Clara and the whole family. With love, Rosa (Rosalba) Mangiardi

Jay- there are so many great memories to list - family dinners at your place in Delray Beach with lots of pasta, wine, and don't forget the Baileys; a staple at dessert time. Going out on the boat whether it be on the Fox River or Atlantic Ocean -you lit up, it was definitely your happy place. Thank you for being a wonderful father-in-law to me and loving father to my husband Joe. May you rest in peace in your mansion in the sky and with any vessel you choose to continue your journey. Xo

My beautiful beautiful Papa
You are the BEST Papa in the world, you have been there for me through EVERYTHING. I am so incredibly blessed that I was able to spend a year with you&Nonna know it was a long time coming.. but we did it!
I tried everything in my power to get to you, but it might not have been in person... but in spirit we're together! I hope you felt Jensen and I there with you
Jensen loves you so much, he knows you're looking out for him❤ your memory will live on through me, and the stories I have of us all together.
You truly were the life of the party! The jokes we could bounce off of each other were hilarious... my favourite thing was to make you laugh... and you to make me ....albeit at the most inappropriate times
I miss you so much already, it makes me sick.. but I know you're with God and you're having a blast up there!
Come down and visit us often, we'll be waiting ❤

God, may you rest in peace. I love you Papa ❤❤❤
