Condolence & Memory Journal

Dear Family, I am proud to have known Dale since becoming an umpire and attending meetings at St. Clair Rec around 1969. I followed him in becoming charter members of the North Coast Umpires Asso. And then moving to the current Suburban Umpires Association. Dale possessed a wealth of knowledge ALWAYS testing your knowledge with an oddball play ! He was the expert and loved to pass along anything he knew ! As well as baseball and fastpitch, Dale had stories about his World basketball officiating. And of course when he umpired the Cleveland Indians games when the Major League umpires were on strike. I have had many games with Dale, varsity softball high school as recent as the 2019 season. AND he was STILL faster than many umpires in our association when on the bases. I have also umpired college games with him. We go back along way !! Just a few years ago he was telling me what a great time he had zip lining !!! Dale was just a fine man, I am so sorry for your loss ! He never had anything negative to say about anyone. He was always encouraging, had an excellent attitude with coaches and players ! He had to, or he would not have survived the giant ASA softball world tournaments in Cleveland and the egos of the players of the era !! Not many umpires would be able to handle it ! There are FEW that have had the dedication and desire to become one of the very best and love doing it for such a long time at such a high level of competition !! I for sure will miss seeing him at our meetings and working with Dale and our conversations ! Again, you have my deepest sympathy. Bob Seedhouse

My family and I got to know Dale, at our family farm in Cadiz, Ohio. We truly enjoyed his company & visits when he would come with my Aunt Jo. Lots of fun stories of umpiring and of course sometimes he would turkey hunt & filled us in on his techniques.. He will be truly missed. Thank you for sharing him with us. Love, Gina Monzula Constantino & Family

Dear Davidson Family,
I am saddened to read about the passing of Dale. I first met Dale in the early 80’s and as a member of Southwest Cuyahoga Umpires, later known as North Coast Umpires. Dale was a mentor, teacher and supporter of all young umpires, both in baseball and in later years a USSSA kingpin. Learned so much from Dale and always enjoyed being on the field with him and working tournament games under his direction. Dale gave me an opportunity to umpire major games with Steele Sports ((Dave Neale), Maraudi Transfer, Hillcrest Tavern and many others...always supportive, constructively critical and real. In later years with Suburban Umpires, Dale continued to share his experiences and knowledge with the group-I so much enjoyed seeing Dale at the meetings and sharing a table with him. RIP Dale Davidson and may your memory always be for a blessing!
