Bedford, NH – Stephen G. Guiheen, 74, died May 13, 2011 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire after a long battle with COPD. Steve was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on April 19, 1937 to the late James and Doris (Porter) Guiheen. He was educated at St. Michael's School in Brattleboro, Class of 1955, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, Class of 1960. He went on the serve in the United States Army, stationed on Long Island, where he produced films and documentaries for the military. Steve returned to Brattleboro and was employed at the Experiment in International Living in Putney, Vermont for many years. While living in Brattleboro he was a communicant of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was involved in parish activities. He was also active in the St. Michael's School Alumni Association. Steve moved to Alexandria, Virginia in 1977 and worked in Washington, DC as a Press Secretary for the General Services Administration until he retired. Following retirement, he returned to New England, living in Bedford, NH with his beloved cat, E.T. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church and was active in the parish community. He also enjoyed visiting and helping at the Bedford animal shelter. Steve enjoyed the theatre, politics, and watching sports, especially Notre Dame football. However, his greatest joy was sharing these interests with his family and friends. He is survived by two aunts, Margaret Webster of Salem, NH and Helen Porter of Concord, NH; four Godchildren, Robert Webster and his wife Patricia of Manchester, NH, Debra (Shaw) Anthony and her husband Curt of Brookline, VT, Kelly (Webster) McIntire and her husband Scott of Londonderry, their children Mary Ellen and Kevin, and their youngest daughter, Jill who is also Steve's Godchild; several cousins; and dear friends Rita Booker and Laurie Caron both of Manchester, NH. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church with Rev. Richard O'Donnell, pastor, celebrant. Burial will follow the services in St. Michael's Parish Cemetery with full military honors. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 P.M.
