He then enlisted in the U.S. Army after the outbreak of World War II and served in the 309th Infantry Regiment until his honorable discharge in 1946. Drayton worked as a fabricator of helicopter blades at Kaman Aerospace in Bloomfield for over 21 years until his retirement in 1971. In his spare time, he enjoyed volunteering at the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum in Somers, fishing, riding his bicycle, and spending time with his family. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Granby. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He leaves two daughters, Holly Condon and her husband John of West Suffield and Judy Holcomb of Brimfield, MA; a brother, George Holcomb and his wife Grace of Fort Worth, TX; a sister, Catherine Gibson Graham and her husband Jim of Green Cove, FL; five grandchildren, Neal Condon, John Condon, Sarah Devine and her husband Christopher, Kirsten Doherty and her husband Peter, and Valerie Keith and her husband Jamey; and seven great grandchildren, Ashley Condon, Nicholas Condon, John Condon, Miranda Condon, Elizabeth Devine, Emma Keith, and Aidan Doherty.
