Obituary

Brooks was born on November 1, 1948 in Hollywood, California and passed away on January 7, 2018. He was a resident of Fairfax, CA, He was the first born child to Charles Clay Horace and the late Jean (Fox) Horace. He grew up in Palos Verdes and Bakersfield. At East Bakersfield High, he was active in student body leadership, swim dive team, football and was a Valley champion wrestler. In Summer he worked in the Kern County oil fields. He fondly recalled the best of times at the family's vacation home in Sun Valley, Idaho and particularly enjoyed teeing off at dawn and being the "first on the mountain" during ski season
.
The person who most inspired him was his dad, who served the country as a Navy fighter pilot on a carrier in the Pacific during WWII. At the end of the war, his dad returned to earn his degree in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Southern California and joined Occidental Petroleum. Brooks followed in his father's footsteps and attended USC where he earned his M.B.A., MS Finance, MS Education, BA Anthropology and BS Biology and Science. Brooks was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity- Delta Pi Chapter, Beta Gamma Sigma and rowed on the USC Varsity crew team. Upon graduation, Brooks worked for United California Bank in Los Angeles. He moved to San Francisco to join Salomon Brothers' Institutional TFI desk and continued at Drexel Burnham, Smith Barney, Everen Securities and A.G. Edwards. Brooks was most recently with Sutter Securities for the past eleven years. In 1990 he married Carol and they became lifelong partners and resided in Marin.

Brooks was happiest when outdoors, an avid golfer, snow skier and river rafter. He enjoyed organizing groups of friends to raft the rapids of the Tuolumne and Yuba Rivers, and skiing the slopes in North Tahoe. He was a member of the Olympic Club and Bay Club for 25 plus years. His close friends affectionately knew him as "Brooksy". He will be remembered for his loquacious fun-loving boyish charm, his generous heart, unique sense of humor, infectious laugh and imaginative tall tales. He had the ability to light up the room and his shining light will be greatly missed.

Brooks is survived by Carol Horace, his father Charles Horace, brother Gary Horace and his wife Laura, sister Viki Williams and her husband Jeff, nieces Michelle, Lisa; nephews Gary, Michael; grandniece Madison and grandnephew Trent. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother Jean Horace and dear friends Steve Luttrell and Jeffrey Filter.
