Agnes Louise Paterson, 96, of Taft, Texas, born in Timpson, Texas, died peacefully on May 11, 2015, at the Coastal Palms Nursing Center in Portland, Texas. Born June 5, 1918 in Timpson, Texas, she is predeceased by her parents, Virginia Estelle Ramsey and James Arthur Woodfin of Timpson, her step-father, Elmer Glen Nelson of Taft and her late husband of 43 years, George “Bob” Paterson of Taft and her sister, Janis M. Paterson of Taft.

Agnes was an Elder emeritus in the First Presbyterian Church of Taft. She was also active in the Taft chapter of AARP until 2012.

Agnes was a homemaker until 1959 when she joined Tutt and Miller Insurance Agency as a secretary and worked there until her retirement in 1980. She enjoyed creating stamp art, traveling, fishing and growing tomatoes in her garden. Agnes was affectionately known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mimi was famous for her homemade buttermilk pancakes!

Survivors include her two children, Bobby (Barbara G.) Paterson of Portland, Texas, and Mary Virginia (John H.) Hopkin of Katy, Texas and granddaughter, Stacy M. Jorden (Chris A.) of Katy; grandson Jon Christopher Hopkin of Houston, Texas; and two great granddaughters, Caroline and Grace Jorden of Katy. Additional survivors include her brother, Royce (Nanci) Nelson of Longview, Texas, and several nieces and nephews in Texas and Louisiana.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Taft on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. There will be a private burial at the Taft Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Taft. Arrangements are provided by Colonial Funeral Home in Taft.
