Albert "AL" Ross Bunt, Jr., passed away December 12, 2017. A Masonic Graveside Service will be held Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Belvedere Cemetery in San Angelo, TX.
Al was born April 30, 1928 in Massena, New York to Albert R. and Goldie Bunt. He graduated from Bucksport High School in Bucksport, Maine in 1947. On September 9, 1950 Al married his high school sweetheart, Pauline (Steinie) Steinarson. At the time of her death in May 2016, they had been married 66 years.
In 1951 Al joined the Air Force and served his country for 23 years, retiring in San Angelo in 1974. Stationed in England, Italy and stateside, he also served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Al and Pauline loved to travel and the Air Force life suited them well. After retirement they continued their travels. Following Al's retirement from the Air Force, he worked for and was office manager at Trimble-Batjer Insurance Co. and later as an Account Executive at KSLT-TV.
Al was a great man of service to "Others". In a recent conversation he said that the word "Others" was his motto. This is evidenced by his many awards for service to the Salvation Army, especially in the area of Disaster Services. Highlights of his service are the Oklahoma City Bombing, the Shuttle Crash in East Texas, and the recovery missions at hurricanes and tornado sites.
Al also served the American Legion, he was on the Board of RSVP, and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and the Salvation Army Board. He received many awards from the Salvation Army and from RSVP for his dedication. He also received the Jefferson Award. A national award for service, as well as the Governor's Award for Human Services.
Al became a Master Mason I Bucksport, Maine in 1950 and remained a Mason for the rest of his life. Memberships included Irion County Lodge 699, Mertzon, Texas, Concho Lodge 1260 San Angelo, Texas, Dallas Scottish Rite, the York Rite and Suez Shrine, San Angelo Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline, and his brother Richard, he is survived by his sister, Ethel (Edie) Starr of Phoenix, AZ brother, John Bunt, of Simi, CA and several nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many close friends. Memorials may be made to the Al and Pauline Bunt Charitable Foundation in care of The San Angelo Area Foundation, 221 S. Irving Street, San Angelo, TX 76903 or charity of choice.
