Alfred "Sonny" Henderson, Jr. was born on September 9, 1935, to the union of Alfred and Pearline Henderson of Hearne, TX. He was the oldest son of 12 children. Sonny accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at New Elam Baptist Church in Hearne, TX. Sonny graduated from Blackshear High School in Hearne, where he held records in track and field. After graduating in 1954, Sonny joined the U.S. Navy. On January 12, 1956, Sonny and Georgia Webber celebrated the birth of a daughter, Derenda Webber. In 1975, Sonny fell in love and married Pearl Nickerson, and they settled in Compton, CA. Through this union, he gained two children: Harvey and Carol Coleman. After 20 years of service, Sonny retired from the U.S. Navy and went to have a second career with the United States Postal Service, which he retired from as well.

In 2006, Sonny and Pearl moved to Allen, TX. They enjoyed several happy years in Allen before Alzheimer's disease required additional support at a care facility. Sonny passed away peacefully on Christmas Day 2017.

He is preceded in death by Grandchild Demart Webber and Sister Lucy Ann White.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 42 years, Pearl Henderson of Grand Prairie, TX, and daughter Derenda King of Texas City, TX. Son Harvey Coleman of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Daughter, Carol Coleman of Grand Prairie, TX. Grandchildren: Demetrius King of Texas City, TX; Derrell King, of Texas City, TX; Kimberly Dunkley, of Lancaster, CA; and Kelly Coleman, of Compton, CA.

He also leaves to mourn brothers and sisters: Lilian "Tootsie" Boyd of Bryan, TX; Katie Henderson, of Hearne, TX; Henry Henderson of Bryan, TX; Robert Henderson, of Waco, TX; Benjamin Henderson, of Bryan, TX; Randolphus Henderson, of Riverdale, CA; Adolphus Henderson, of Bryan, TX; Donald Henderson, of Las Vegas, NV; Larry Henderson, Lebanon, PA; and Diane Edison, of Gardena, CA.
Sonny will be mourned by a host of great grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Big Daddy, " along with nieces and nephews and grandchildren from California to Texas have fond memories of riding in the mobile home and the Mountain Lake Campsite in California.

Alfred "Sonny" Henderson will be remembered as loyal to his country, his family, and loved by many.
