STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Staten Islander Alfred Limeri, 89, of Stowe, Vt., a retired port captain whois remembered as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Saturday in Fletcher Allen Hospital, Burlington, Vt.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Limeri moved to Eltingville in 1964. He lived in the community until 1994, when he relocated to Plano, Texas. He moved to Stowe in 2011, to live with his daughter, Terry Smith.

Mr. Limeri worked for more than 15 years in the steamship industry as a port captain for Costa Lines, Manhattan.

He loved to travel.

His wife, Ruth, died in 1994. He also was preceded in death by his son, Philip, in 2014.

Surviving, along with his daughter, Terry, are his son, Fred; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
